Foldover Tote Bag Tutorial

Hello People,

My large tote bag is from old-recycled khakis pants that i got from bundle shop. I match two coordinating colour since only one pants wont provide enough fabric for may large tote bag. After a long thought, i decided to make a fold over tote bag hence make it a large fold over toe bag.

Here is the list of materials i use to make it.

1. 2 Recycled long pants ( two matching color) for exterior fabric
2. Fusible Interfacing
3. Lining Fabric
4. D-Ring (2 piece)
5. 9' inch Metal Zipper
6. Coordinating Thread
7. Iron

1. Making the tab and tote bag handle.

First, Cut 2 pieces of  exterior fabric (6x7 inch). Fold it into half and iron it on.

Then fold it into half again, and iron it on.

Fold it again and top stitch on both side of the tab.  The finished top stitched tab will look like the        picture on the right below.

Then, insert the D-Ring and sew it on to keep them in place. Dont forget to finish both two tabs.

The same step apply while making the bag handle except that we cut a different size of fabric              (6x24 inch) longer fabric. I forgot to take picture while making the handle but the finished                  version will look like this.

Keep both the tabs and handle aside. We will focus on the next step.

    2. Making the Exterior Body of the Tote Bag

Since i want to make it more fancy and fashionable (haha), I decided to use two          coordinating colours for the main body. Naah, actually just one pants is not enough to make my large tote bag, hahaha

Cut 2 piece of the main exterior fabric (14.5x18.5 inch). I should warn you that this tote bag is extremely large in size.
Cut 2 piece of the second coordinating exterior fabric ( 5.5x18.5 inch) and sandwich them right side together.

Stitch along the bottom of the fabric (1/2 seam allowance). Then, open them both and topstitch. The final main fabric dimension is (19.5x18.5 inch)

Next is to iron the interfacing on the main body. Fold the main body into two (to find the center line) and iron it on.

3. Attaching the Tab and Finish the Main Body.
